HISTORY 2055-2077
Federative Republic of Brazil rapidly rose to power in the early 21st century. It went from a regional power in 2000 to being a world power by 2045. Its large robust population, inexhaustible amount of natural resources, huge swaths of arable lands, and its large pool of skilled labor allowed it to grow almost unchecked. The only other powers to rival Brazil in South America for influence was Mexico and to a lesser extent its ally Colombia. These powers jockeyed for influence over the other Latin American nations and a large amount of animosity grew in Latin America from this power struggle. The rivalry between Brazil and Mexico even spilled into space when both joined the International Space Agency, lead by the European Union, and actively spent time sabotaging each others efforts.
The Unites States of America, before the unofficial peacekeeper of the region completely withdrew from South America as it powered declined greatly in the early half of the twentieth century. The USA only had significant ties with Colombia and Chile by 2025 and the People's Republic of China took up the power vacuum left by the American retreat from Latin America. In 2041 China sat both Mexico and Brazil down and promised to help modernize their military and help them set up colonies on the moon if they would set aside their differences. Both nations accepted the offer and China soon poured billions into rebuilding the two nations military and other vital infrastructures. Soon with that massive influx of Chinese money into Brazil the Chinese started to spread its influence throughout the two large South American nations. Yet, Brazil was much more susceptible to the Chinese corruption (due to its culture of corrupt and larger rich-poor disparity) and the Chinese were soon able to change entire governments almost at its whelm. In 2048 the Chinese backed Brazilian Social Democratic Party (PSDM) candidate Mr. Carvalho took power and further aligned Brazil with China. In 2045 the first of many Chinese military bases were opened inside of Brazil. In 2056 the Chinese backed a Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) candidate named Mr. da Assunção, he was a long shot candidate, but won in a “landslide victory.” The first communist president in Brazil's history.
The Third Human Civil War broke out in 2055 between the Hegemony (PRC, CFR, HIE) and the United States with her allies. Brazil officially was neutral, but didn't act as such. Brazil was used as a launching ground for Chinese missiles against US targets in the Caribbean and Brazil produced millions of tons of war materials for the Hegemony. The US refused to act against Brazil and when the Chinese invaded the USA itself. President da Assunção officially declared war against the Allies and joined the Hegemony. The Brazilians immediately invaded its neighbors including Colombia and pushed north into the Carribean. The Allies immediately reeling from the rapid Hegemony advance in almost every front of the war started to send SPECOP and secret agents inside numerous Hegemony aligned nations including Brazil. These agents trained and armed the opposition forces to the established Hegemony government and in Brazil it was a huge success. Many of the regular Brazilian people were horrified at the Hegemony for its treatment of occupied nations, enslavement of entire peoples, and its hard racial superiority dogma. To normal Brazilians proud of their past glory of rebelling from imperial conquerors and shaking off slavery in 1888, this was a huge step back for its people. In 2062 Brazil collapsed into civil war. The Hegemony backed communist party government against the Allied backed Democrat/Liberal rebels. The civil war would last until 2067 when the Allies staged an amphibious assault in northern Brazil which sent the Chinese puppet government into exile in Hegemony Argentina. Brazil immediately switched allegiances under the command of President Joca and joined the Allies in summer 2067. President Joca was assassinated shortly after by Hegemony partisans in Brazil and the Commander of the Army took control of the government. General Calanzans, the new head of government, promised to return Brazil back to its democracy at the conclusion of the war. Brazil rapidly re-shifted its military and went on the offensive against the Hegemony in South America. Along with Mexico, Colombia, Free Chile, and the USA it quickly crushed Argentina. Pushing the Hegemony out of most of the Western Hemisphere. Brazil soon found itself fighting in Europe, Oceania, Africa and eventually China itself. At the end of the war General Calanzans was never able to fulfill his promise. The surviving Allied (and Hegemony) nations banded together and formed the USEA (United States Earth Authority). This new world government would soon be toppled and US General De-Tierra would be its brutal and tyrannical leader.
