[I sat at a restaurant in Wilson Garden waiting for my new interview with a WW3 veteran: Rt-Brigadier Godwin Joseph. Walking inside my interviewee immediately recognized who I was and invited me to his table. He looked as a young and strong man; possibly an augmented human with a large beard. He was more than a century old. The modern genetic technology has greatly increased the human life expectancy. We exchanged pleasantries and sat down together.]

“So Mr. Godwin shall we get started?”
“Ok. Let us start.”
“Godwin, thank you very much for agreeing to this interview. I’m going to ask you a series of questions about the Third World War, please answer truthfully. This interview is being recorded for the benefit of the future generations. I want you to know that whatever you say cannot be used against you in a court of law. You are protected under the Third Human Civil Amnesty Act of 2119. Do you understand?”
“Yes I do.”
“Let’s start with your place of birth.”
“I was born in Kottayam in Kerala, Republic of India on March 14, 2039. “
“Kerala, the Gods on country?”
“Yes. It formed the south western part of the ancient Indian nation. It was widely known for its natural beauty, tourist destinations, industrious people, communal harmony and safety. People there enjoyed the highest living standards in the Republic of India. Due to this reason, Kerala was known as the Gods own country. It also contained the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala.
“Tell me more about your childhood.”
“I grew up as the only child of my parents. My dad was a prominent lawyer at Kottayam. I led a luxurious life during my childhood. I passed matriculation in March 2055. I participated in National Cadet Corps (NCC) program in 2054-2055 period. The NCC was a new experience for me and instilled courage and patriotism in me. I knew what pain is. I came to know how to survive in a hostile environment. Commonly, it was a time of great prosperity and the period of Second Indian Golden Age. The people of India enjoyed very high standards of living and poverty was almost eradicated.”
“Second Indian Golden Age?”
During the beginning of the 21ST century, India underwent rapid changes on social, economic and political fronts. A new group of young leaders emerged in India to transform the nation. The USA, India, Japan and thousands of private corporations formed the space agency called the AJISA. It pushed the rise of those three nations in the space and first started with the creation of numerous space elevators of which India built one just south of Maldives. Soon Indian colonies were built beyond the Earth whose resources started buoying India. India and China were the only two winners during the Second Great Depression, mainly because of their massive self reliant populations. As the US, Japan, EU and rest of the world suffered in the depression, both these nations rose. India saw the rise of China with wary and began to build up its military to compete with it. The only Allied power to do so. India became the member of the United Nations Security Council in 2025.”
“What about India’s military buildup?”
The Indian expansion started relatively slowly in the early 21st century but as the United States began to weaken significantly, India realized it couldn’t rely upon the US military to combat the rise of China. So it changed its military doctrine to be able to take on China in a protracted war. From 2030, India’s military doubled in numbers and India started to field a powerful robotic army. India shored up its military complex in the south and established many military bases in Srilanka. Maldives, Vietnam, Philippines, South Africa, Australia and even North America.” By the time of my birth, India was truly a superpower.”
“Tell me about your entry into the war.”
It started when I was 16 when the fucking Hegemony bastards started the war. They were jealous of India’s prosperity and goodwill. The Hegemony bastards launched a limited nuclear strike on the north and western Indian cities, destroying Gandhinagar and Srinagar. The Indian command retaliated by nuking Tehran, Baghdad, Karachi and Wuhan. I immediately enlisted in the Indian army. I got some preference due to my impressive records during the NCC. My unit was sent to Punjab. We fought the endless Hegemony forces in the First battle of Amritsar. The battle of Amritsar was my first combat experience. It was marked by the brave leadership of General Siddhartha Lakshmikantha. He inspired us to make the Hegemony realize that we are the masters of my domain. I was promoted to the rank of a second lieutenant after the war.”
“Tell me about your role in the war.”
My next important combat event was the First Battle of New Delhi. Here too General Lakshmikantha played a major role and turned what would have been a Hegemony victory into a blood bath. We bitterly held our line allowing millions of civilians to flee south. We retreated to the Central India in 2056 April since the city was no longer defensible. New Delhi fell to the PLA. I saw many of my friends being put to death by the HIE-PLA mother fuckers. Many women were mercilessly raped. I became very angry and vowed to wreck terrible vengeance of the Hegemony. But one thing was very true. The fighting in India was really tough.”
“Why?”
Unlike the other fronts, the fighting in India was very fluid. The frontlines constantly shifted and we often found ourselves behind the enemy lines. We then turned to guerilla tactics to resist the Hegemony. A ton of hit and run ambushes. I am proud to say that my unit MARCOS killed more Hegemony mother fuckers than any other military unit of all allied armies. Our guerilla tactics too heavy toll on the Hegemony invasion forces. The Hegemony invaded the United States of America in 2060. We bogged down half of the PLA troops in India. China soon found its outraging two separate wars against two determined enemies on their homelands in two different continents. We waited for the day when the Allies could turn the tide of the war. In 2061, my unit received an order which I thought I would never receive.
“What was that?”
“My unit was transferred to the Mississippi Defensive Line to help the Americans stop the CHICOMs. The Americans turned the eastern bank of the Mississippi to an impassable fortress. I first met my wife, Lakshmi there. We soon fell in love and together bitterly fought the Hegemony. I married Lakshmi in March 2062. The fighting in Mississippi was a brutal one. But that was only the beginning. There I met millions of soldiers from America, Europe, Mexico, Australia and Japan. We fought as brothers for a common cause. It was a war only for survival and nothing else.
“Where all did your unit fight during the war?”
My unit fought on numerous fronts in India, North America, Europe, Mideast and finally in China. After the liberation of North America in April 2065, we were transferred to Europe. The Operation Charlegemagne was an easy game for the Allies because the Hegemony was severely weakened due to the HIE double cross. We slowly pushed through the HIE defenses in the Southern Europe and rapidly advanced to the Mideast. We adopted a scorched earth policy against the Holy Islamic Empire. We showed them no mercy. We pillaged, ravaged and killed them. After the destruction of the HIE, we were posted in liberated Taiwan to fight in the Operation Scorch Garden. We did the same thing to the Chinese. I remember the battle of Xian every time. I killed PLA General Liu, the successor of General Hon. Chinese surrendered and WW3 came to an end. I was awarded Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military award.
“Please tell me more about the Hegemony in India?”
“India was prepared for war, but it was forced to fight two very powerful enemies, the PLA and HIE at the same time. The major fact about the Holy Islamic Forces was the use of a super drug which gave an ungodly edge. That made them nearly invincible. But by the end of the war, even this super drug didn’t save them from defeat. Bastards [He gives me devilish smile.]. The PLA had a very powerful robotic army. The Indian robotic army was also equally powerful, but fewer in number. The Hegemony fucks committed countless atrocities on the civilian population in India, but we repaid them with interest during the invasion of HIE and Operation Scorch Garden.
“What about your life after the war?”
“I left army after the WW3. My family survived the war and I led a happy life with Lakshmi. We settled in Bangalore and we formed a small business on food processing. I am leading a quiet and peaceful life here. I am completely satisfied with what I have.”
“What is your opinion about the United Systems?”
“U.S.E is a perfect government. Mankind as one will prosper and continue to dominate the universe as the one and only superpower. I am happy that Indians are one of the three leading forces of the U.S.E. along with the Americans and the Europeans. I am glad that freedom and liberty is protected here. I fought for these aims. I support Federalists because only a strong centralized government can protect the mankind.
